The exhibition ‘Heritage in Stitches: A Journey through Embroidery and Sewing Traditions of Uzbekistan’ continues its work in the National Museum of Kazakhstan.

Women's dressing gowns from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were restored for the exhibition. This period was the heyday of folk art, which ended with political changes at the beginning of the last century that led to the loss of many traditional crafts. The exhibition combines elite urban crafts and folk art of embroidery: the halls present traditional chapanes embroidered in gold, women's dresses and burqas, as well as fabrics made in the ikat technique.

The exhibition ‘Heritage in Stitches: A Journey through the embroidery and sewing traditions of Uzbekistan’ is open at the National Museum of Kazakhstan until 1 June.
