The State Museum of Arts named after I. V. Savitsky continues its large-scale exhibition project "Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert."
Zinaida Kovalevskaya tried her hand at artistic avant-garde only at the beginning of her career, spending the rest of her time working in the style of Impressionism and Realism. The central theme in the artist's works was the poetic image of the new Uzbek woman. However, there were exceptions— in 1945, she painted a portrait of the artist Pavel Ben’kov (the third work from the right), her colleague at the Samarkand Art School. The Republican Art College in Tashkent is currently named after him.
The exhibition "Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert" will run at the State Museum of Arts named after I. V. Savitsky until June 1, 2025.
