Dr Vivek Gupta in Tashkent

We are welcoming Dr Vivek Gupta to CCA Artist Residencies in Tashkent. A historian and curator of the art and architecture of the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia, and Iran, Vivek explores how the medieval past can help us forge new futures.

Throughout his research, Vivek examines transregional cultural flows emerging from the fifteenth century, a time when the ruler Timur and the artisans and intellectuals of his dynasty were at the center of global geopolitics. At CCA he has been researching modern artistic entanglements between South and Central Asia.

Vivek’s work has been supported by numerous prestigious fellowships from the British Academy, University of Cambridge, and the Smithsonian Institution, and his work has appeared in leading journals of art history. He is currently curating an exhibition on music and Mughal art at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
