In Samarkand, Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, met with Khaled El-Enany, the newly elected Director-General of UNESCO.
During the discussion, they highlighted Uzbekistan’s achievements in partnership with the organization: membership in the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, accession to the International Research Centre for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, establishment of the Abu Rayhan Beruni International Award for research in AI ethics, creation of the UNESCO Regional Centre for Early Childhood Education, and the International Advisory Committee on Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage. They also noted the participation of Uzbek cities in UNESCO global networks and the inclusion of cultural sites and elements in UNESCO’s international heritage lists.
The meeting emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation across all areas of UNESCO’s mandate in education, science, culture, and information, as well as advancing joint efforts to implement the initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh.M.Mirziyoyev, at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
