The Silk Roads exhibition at the British Museum in London is currently running, featuring 14 artefacts from collections in Uzbekistan. These objects vividly showcase the migration of people and artworks along the main trade route from 500 to 1000 AD.

Between the 12th and 15th centuries, textiles from Central Asia, renowned for their sophistication and elegance, became highly valued in the homes of nobility across Europe and the Middle East. Some of these fabrics were produced in specialised workshops within city palaces, using silk threads and gold embroidery. These textiles were later fashioned into exquisite garments for both everyday wear and special occasions, or as gifts for distinguished guests. The fabrics were decorated with a variety of motifs, including geometric patterns, floral designs, as well as representations of animals, birds, and even mythical creatures.

The Silk Roads exhibition will be open until 23 February 2025 at the Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery in the British Museum.
