During his stay in Samarkand, the newly appointed Director-General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enani, visited the city’s main historical landmarks.

At Registan Square, he toured the Ulugbek and Tilla-Kori madrasahs, where, following extensive restoration works and the updating of exhibitions, collections showcasing the scientific and cultural heritage of the Timurid era are now on display.

At the Amir Temur Mausoleum, Khaled El-Enani explored the new museum exhibitions dedicated to the life and legacy of Amir Temur, as well as the restoration works carried out to preserve the complex’s original architectural harmony.

Concluding his visit, he went to the Shah-i-Zinda ensemble and the renovated memorial complex of Imam Al-Bukhari, noting Uzbekistan’s careful approach to preserving its cultural heritage.
