Gayane Umerova is a public and state figure of the Republic of Uzbekistan working in the fields of cultural policy, the creative economy, and international humanitarian cooperation.
She currently serves as Head of the Department of Creative Economy and Tourism of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation (ACDF). In her work, she contributes to the implementation of large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at the development of the cultural sphere, the preservation of national heritage, and the strengthening of the country’s international standing.
As part of the state strategy for the modernisation of cultural infrastructure initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, projects are being implemented for the creation of the new National Museum of Uzbekistan, the development of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Tashkent, the support of the museum sector, the restoration of cultural heritage sites, and the expansion of international cultural cooperation. A number of these initiatives are coordinated by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
Gayane Umerova is involved in promoting Uzbekistan’s cultural potential on the international stage. Since 2021, she has served as Commissioner of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the Venice Biennale of Art and Architecture. She also contributes to the coordination of the country’s cultural programme within the framework of international exhibitions and forums, including Expo 2025 Osaka and other international initiatives.
With the participation of Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and in cooperation with international partners, the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation organised the inaugural Bukhara Biennial and the Aral Culture Summit, dedicated to the environmental and cultural development of the Aral Sea region.
Gayane Umerova serves as Chairperson of the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO under the Cabinet of Ministers. Within the framework of the consistent policy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening international cultural and humanitarian cooperation, particular significance has been attached to the decision to hold the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand in 2025.
For her contribution to the development of international cultural dialogue and the strengthening of cultural ties, she was awarded the “Dustlik” Order on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, and in April 2025 was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
In her professional activities, she focuses on the implementation of state cultural policy, support for young professionals, the development of the creative industries, and the formation of a contemporary cultural environment in Uzbekistan.
