The art of making and playing the rubaba is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage

The 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO is taking place in Asunción (Paraguay) from 2 to 7 December 2024. On 4 December 2024, at a meeting of the Committee, the multi-national nomination “The Art of Making and Playing the Rubab” was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by unanimous decision of all member countries.

The Committee's decision noted that the rubab is one of the oldest musical instruments of Central, South and South-West Asia.

The nomination document was prepared by the Secretariat of the National Commission in cooperation with the relevant organisations of the Ministry of Culture. This element is the 16th element from the Republic of Uzbekistan inscribed on the UNESCO List.

The inscription of the element on the UNESCO List raises awareness of its importance at the international and national level, preserves the element with Member States and passes it on to the next generation.
