UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, who was elected to this position in Samarkand during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference earlier this year, paid an introductory visit to Tashkent. The visit marked an important step in strengthening cultural exchange and enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO.
During his visit, Director-General Khaled El-Enany toured a number of cultural and historical landmarks in the capital, including the People’s Friendship Palace, the Namuna art residency — a contemporary space for artistic exchange and creative initiatives — as well as the presentation of the National Museum of Uzbekistan project.
The programme also included visits to the Hazrati Imam complex, the Centre of Islamic Civilisation, and the embroidery school-workshop of Madina Kasymbaeva in Suzuk-ota, where the traditions of Uzbek decorative and applied arts are carefully preserved. The visit of the UNESCO Director-General served as an important acknowledgement of the international community’s interest in Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage and its modern initiatives in the fields of art and education.
