As part of the UNESCO–Uzbekistan Beruniy Prize, a special issue of The UNESCO Courier titled Abu Rayhon Beruniy: A Multi-faceted Scholar has been published in English and Uzbek. The edition is dedicated to the legacy of the eminent Eastern scholar Abu Rayhon Beruniy, who made a profound contribution to world civilisation, with his discoveries continuing to inform virtually all fields of modern science and culture.

The current issue consists of two sections. The first features archival materials by leading international researchers, devoted to various aspects of the life and scholarly activity of the medieval scientist, originally published by the same magazine in 1974 to mark the millennium of Beruniy’s birth and translated into 15 world languages. The second section comprises contemporary cultural and anthropological articles by specialists on Beruniy’s legacy, selected by the editorial board through an open international competition. The UNESCO Courier has been published since 1948 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The special issue was prepared jointly by the editorial board of The UNESCO Courier and leading scholars of the Abu Rayhon Beruniy Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
