The Art and Culture Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan has raised concerns regarding the publication of the guidebook Architekturführer. Taschkent (ISBN 978-3-86922-550-0), recently published by DOM Publishers.
The guidebook, released following the conference “WHERE IN THE WORLD IS TASHKENT?”, organised by the Foundation as part of the Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI project in October 2023, contains materials, legal status of some of which requires clarification.
Key concerns raised by the Foundation include:
• The use of texts authored by project contributors without consent and/or with errors in attribution.
• Reproduction of works from museum collections without the necessary permissions;
• Use of archival documents without approval from authorized government bodies;
• Publication of photographs created as part of the Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI project without the consent of the authors or the Foundation;
The Foundation emphasises the importance of adhering to copyright laws and ethical standards when using press materials. To address these issues, an official request has been sent to DOM Publishers.
We firmly believe that a commitment to transparency and compliance with international copyright standards will help find a mutually acceptable solution and prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.
The Foundation remains open to constructive collaboration to promote and protect Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage on the international stage.
