The exhibition project “Uzbekistan: Avant-Garde in the Desert” continues its work at the Savitsky State Museum of Art in Nukus.
The exhibition features a few surviving works by Nikolai Grigoriev. In his time, the artist studied under Pavel Benkov and Konstantin Korovin, and then taught himself at the State Free Art Workshops in Moscow. Much in Grigoriev's creative life was changed by his trips to Samarkand in 1914-1915, which brought bright colours and subjects to his work. The work ‘City’ was painted in 1919 and leans towards avant-garde stylistics, in particular, the straight lines of Cubism.
The exhibition will run until December 2025.
