The exhibition project “Uzbekistan: Avant-garde in the Desert” continues at the Savitsky State Museum of Art in Nukus.

Among the avant-garde works on display, one can find traditional handicrafts, such as Bukhara silk textiles. The patterns on the fabric from the late 19th century are reminiscent of non-objective painting, which would begin to appear in galleries around the world several decades later. The textiles and avant-garde paintings, displayed side by side, suggest the artistic continuity of craft methods in fine art.

The exhibition will run until December 2025.
