The historic Registan Square once again became a meeting place for world-class musical artistry and outstanding performance traditions.

On 10 June, Samarkand hosted a gala concert featuring opera soloists and the symphony orchestra of Russia’s Bolshoi Theatre, conducted by Valery Gergiev. The performance by one of the world’s leading musical theatres became a significant event in the city’s cultural life, attracting a large audience to the legendary square.

The concert formed part of the international programme marking the 250th anniversary of Russia’s Bolshoi Theatre. The evening once again highlighted Samarkand’s unique role as a venue for major international cultural events, bringing together a rich historical heritage and world-renowned artistic excellence.
