Uzbek miniature artist Davlat Toshev will take part in an artist residency at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, with the support of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
From 6 to 19 September, Toshev will lead a series of workshops exploring the art of Eastern miniature painting and the traditional Abru-Bahor technique, engaging local artists and museum visitors.
Toshev is one of Uzbekistan’s leading practitioners working to preserve and develop the country’s miniature painting traditions. In 2025, as part of the inaugural Bukhara Biennial, he created «Haft Avrang» (Seven Colours of Heaven) at the Gaukushon Madrasa — an installation that brought the tradition of miniature painting into dialogue with the historic architecture of Bukhara.
The Doha residency continues the Foundation’s work to support Uzbek artists and craftspeople, creating opportunities for Uzbekistan’s artistic and cultural traditions to be represented and shared internationally
