Performances of Red Giselle by Boris Eifman have concluded on the stage of the Alisher Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theatre in Tashkent — one of the most deeply affecting productions in contemporary choreography.

The Saint Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre of Boris Eifman presented three evenings in Tashkent, after which the audience was reluctant to let the performers leave the stage.

Set to music by Tchaikovsky, Schnittke and Bizet, the ballet tells the story of the legendary ballerina Olga Spessivtseva: genius, revolution, exile, and the slow fading of a human soul. Eifman does not merely recount this life — he inhabits its anguish together with the audience. It is an experience that is impossible to forget.
